A color change wrap is the only way to completely change how your car looks and still have the factory paint underneath when you are done with it. We install them here in New Oxford.
A full wrap means every painted panel gets covered in vinyl film. Doors, fenders, hood, roof, bumpers, mirrors, the edges you only see when a door is open. Done right you should not be able to tell it is a wrap without touching it, and the paint underneath comes out the same as it went in.
That last part is the reason most people wrap instead of paint. A respray is permanent and it lands on your title conversation later. A wrap comes off, and the paint under it has been sitting under a layer of protection the whole time.
Vinyl copies whatever is under it. A rock chip, a bit of overspray, a raised edge of clear coat, all of it telegraphs straight through the film and you will see it every time you walk up to the car. So the car gets washed, decontaminated and gone over panel by panel before a single piece of film comes off the roll.
Trim and badges come off rather than getting cut around wherever we can, because a wrap that is tucked behind a piece of trim stays down and a wrap that is trimmed against it starts lifting in a season. It is slower and it is the difference between a wrap that lasts and one that peels at the first pressure wash.
If the paint underneath is already failing, peeling clear, bubbling, or a cheap repair that is lifting, we will tell you before we start rather than wrap over a problem and hand it back.
A full color change is a multi-day job. The car has to be clean, dry and indoors the whole time, the film needs to be worked at temperature, and the edges need to be post-heated so they stay put. Anyone quoting you a full wrap in an afternoon is cutting something out.
You get a real window when you book, and if something turns up mid-job that changes it, you hear about it that day rather than at pickup.
Five to seven years is normal for a quality film, and where the car lives matters more than the mileage. A car that sits outside in full sun all summer ages a wrap faster than one that lives in a garage.
Not on healthy factory paint. It actually shields it. Where wraps cause trouble is over resprays and bodywork that were not done well, because the film can lift poorly bonded paint when it comes off. We check first and tell you straight.
Yes, and it is a lot cheaper. Roof, hood, mirrors and chrome delete are the common ones. That is covered on the chrome delete and partial wraps page.
Hand wash it. Keep a pressure washer off the edges and seams, and skip the brush tunnel entirely. Matte finishes also need a wash soap without gloss enhancers in it.
